  1. Rice     250    g
  2. Mustard Seeds     1    tsp
  3. Urad Dal(Uzhunnuparippu)     1    tsp
  4. Kadalai Paruppu     1    tsp
  5. Curry Leaves     2    stalk
  6. Red Chillies     2    no.
  7. Grated Coconut     ½    cup
  8. Salt to taste     ¼    tsp
  9. Oil     5    tsp


  1. Heat a oil pan,fry the rice very lightly without adding oil. keep it aside.
  2. Leave oil and splutter mustard seeds.
  3. dd urad dal, kadalai paruppu and currey leaves. Cut and add red chillies.
  4. Add twice the water(as used for cooking rice) and salt.
  5. When water boils at full temperature, add washed rice to it.
  6. Close the lid and place the Cooker weight.
  7. Wait until one sound, and keep it in light heat(sim) for 5 minutes.
  8. Stop the Stove and serve later.Add grated coconut and serve.
  9. This can be cooked in Oil pan also to get roasted uppuma in the bottom of the pan, by adding more oil
