  1. Chicken -skinned and cut into pieces    1    Kg
  2. Onion -sliced    ½    cup
  3. Long Red Chillies     15    nos.
  4. Short Red Chillies     6    nos.
  5. Coconut Milk     1½    litre
  6. Fenugreek Seeds(Uluva)     1    tsp
  7. Coriander Seeds (Malli)     2    tbsp
  8. Saffron     1    pinch
  9. Cumin Seeds     1    tsp
  10. Rice -dry roasted    3    tbsp
  11. Curry Leaves     4    stalks
  12. Garlic -chopped    6    cloves
  13. Mustard Seeds     1    tsp
  14. Small Onion / Shallot     10    g
  15. Oil     1    tbsp
  16. Tamarind     20    g


  1. Grind the red chillies,fenugreek seeds, coriander seeds,saffron,cumin seeds,rice,curry leaves(3 stalks)and garlic.Make a masala paste of it.
  2. Marinate the chicken in the masala paste for about 30 minutes.
  3. Cook the chicken in a pan along with the sliced onion, salt and half of the coconut milk.
  4. Add the remaining cocunnut milk and simmer for few minutes.
  5. Add tamarind into the curry and simmer for few minutes.
  6. Fry one stalk of curry leaves,small onions and mustard in 1 tbsp oil and add to the curry for seasoning.
  7. Serve it hot.
