  1. Basmati Rice     1    cup
  2. Sliced Onion     ½    cup
  3. Chopped Tomatoes     1    cups
  4. Green Chillies  Finely Chopped     2    no.
  5. Green bell peppers -chopped coarsely    1    cup
  6. Turmeric Powder     ¼    tsp
  7. Garam Masala     ½    tsp
  8. Salt to taste    1    tsp
  9. For Garnish
    1. Ghee      1    tbsp
    2. Cinnamon Pieces (Patta)      2    pieces
    3. Bay leaves      1    no.
    4. Cumin Seeds      ½    tsp
    5. Fennel Seeds(Perumjeerakam)      ½    tsp
    6. Cake flour      ½    tsp
  10. For The Seasoning
    1. Cashew Nuts      25    g


  1. Wash the rice, drain and cook it in 2cups of water. Set aside.
  2. For the seasoning, put the oil and ghee in a wok over medium heat. When the oil is hot but not smoking, add the remaining seasoning ingredients. Fry over medium heat, till the seeds are brown.
  3. Add the onions, tomatoes and green chilli. Stir-fry for a couple of minutes.
  4. Add the bell peppers, turmeric powder and garam masala powder. Mix well.
  5. Cook covered over medium heat stirring occasionally, till the bell peppers are slightly tender about a minute. Do not overcook them.
  6. Stir in salt and add the cooked rice. Stir gently over low heat, to blend the ingredients. Remove from heat.
  7. Garnish with cashew nuts. Serve it hot.
