  1. Mutton cut in to medium sized pieces    1    Kg
  2. Basmati Rice     3    cup
  3. Oil     ½    cup
  4. Water     5    cup
  5. Lemon Juice    1    tbsp
  6. For The Paste
    1. Mint Leaves(Pudina)      1    cup
    2. Coriander Leaves      1    cup
    3. Ginger      1    pieces
    4. Cinnamon Pieces (Patta)      1    pieces
    5. Cardamom Seeds (Elakka)      3    nos.
    6. Cloves (Kariampo)      3    nos.
    7. Onion      2    no.
    8. Garlic      2    cloves
    9. Green Chillies      7    nos.
    10. Grated Coconut      1    cup
  7. Roasted Cashew Nuts     25    g
  8. Roasted Raisins (Unakka Munthiri)     25    g
  9. Salt to taste     ½    tsp


  1. Grind all the ingredients for making the paste.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add the mutton and ground masala. Fry well.
  3. Then add the 1 1/2 cup water for the mutton to cook. When the mutton is tender, add the rice and the remaining water.
  4. Sprinkle salt to taste. When the rice is cooked, add the lemon juice. Stir gently.
  5. Garnish with roasted cashew nuts and raisins.
  6. Serve hot with any raita.
