  1. Raw Rice(Pachari)     1    cup
  2. Moong Dal(Cherupayar Parippu)     ¼    cup
  3. Cumin Seeds     1    tsp
  4. Green Chillies -chopped    2    no.
  5. Salt     1    tsp
  6. Grated Coconut     ½    cup
  7. For The Seasoning
    1. Oil      2    tbsp
    2. Curry Leaves      1    stalks
    3. Mustard Seeds      1    tsp
    4. Urad Dal(Uzhunnuparippu)      1    tsp


  1. Wash the rice and moong dal separately. Soak the rice in 3 cups of water for about 2 hours.Soak the dal in enough weater to cover.
  2. Grind rice, Cumin seeds and green chillies with 1 cup of water to a coarse consistency.Transfer to a bowl.
  3. Drain moongdal completely.Mix it in to the ground rice.
  4. Put the oil in a skillet over medium heat. When the oil is hot but not smoking, add the remaining tempering ingredients.Fry cver medium heat, till mustard seeds splutter and the urad dal is golden; about 30 seconds.
  5. Add the ground rice and drained moong dal and salt to the skillet
  6. Pour about 11/2 cups of water in to the skillet. Simmer covered, stirring frequently over medium heat, till the rice is cooked.
  7. Add coconut and mix well.Cool the mixture.
  8. Shape in to small lemon- sized, oval-shaped balls and stem- cook for 10-12 minutes before serving.
