  1. Green Gram Dal(Cherupayar Parippu)     2    cups
  2. Jaggery(Sarkkara)     ½    Kg
  3. Coconut Milk (First Milk)     2    cup
  4. Coconut Milk (Second Milk)    3    cup
  5. Onion -chopped    1    tsp
  6. Cashew Nuts     50    g
  7. Raisins (Unakka Munthiri)     50    g
  8. Cardamom(Elakka) Powder     ½    tsp
  9. Ghee     2    tbsp


  1. Fry green gram till golden brown and cook it along with second coconut milk in a pressure cooker.
  2. Melt jaggery and strain it using a sieve. Pour this melted jaggery into the cooked dal. Stir to combine. If it contains excess water boil till the water dries up.
  3. Into this add first coconut milk and cardamom seeds powder and boil it. Turn off the stove.
  4. Heat ghee in a non stick pan, roast cashew nuts and raisins till golden brown. Keep it aside. Roast chopped onion till golden brown in the remaining ghee.
  5. Add roasted cashew nuts, raisins and onion to the above made payasam and serve warm.
