Ingredients: 

    1. Toor Dal      1    cup
    2. Salt to taste      ½    tsp
    1. Grated Coconut      1    cup
    2. Turmeric Powder      ¼    tsp
    3. Fennel Seeds(Perumjeerakam)      ¼    tsp
    4. Green Chillies      2    nos.
    1. Mustard Seeds      1    tsp
    2. Small Onion / Shallot  -chopped    3    nos.
    3. Dry Red Chillies      2    nos.
    4. Curry Leaves      2    stalks
    1. Oil      1    tbsp

Description:
 

  1. Cook the toor dal adding enough water and salt.
  2. Grind together the second ingredients.Keep it aside.
  3. Heat oil in a pan,add mustard seeds and allow to splutter.
  4. Add small onion,red chillies and curry leaves,stir for 5 minutes.
  5. Add ground coconut mixture and stir for 3 minutes. Then add toor dal and mix it well.Simmer for about 5 minutes.
  6. Thoran is ready.
