Beef Kinnapathiri

  1. For Making Rice Batter
    1. Parboiled Rice      1½    cups
    2. Thick Coconut Milk      1½    cup
    3. Garam Masala  Powder    ½    tsp
    4. Pepper Powder      ½    tsp
    5. Salt to taste      ½    tsp
  2. For Making Ground Beef Filling
    1. Ground Beef      ½    Kg
    2. Ginger Garlic Paste      ½    tsp
    3. Onion  -chopped    3    nos.
    4. Red Chilli Powder      1    tsp
    5. Turmeric Powder      ½    tsp
    6. Coriander Powder      2    tsp
    7. Garam Masala  Powder    ½    tsp
    8. Fennel Seeds(Perumjeerakam)  Powder    ½    tsp
    9. Pepper Powder      ¼    tsp
    10. Coriander Leaves  -chopped    2    stalks
    11. Curry Leaves      1    stalks
    12. Ghee      2    tbsp
    13. Salt to taste      ½    tsp
    14. Coconut Oil      4    tbsp


  1. Soak rice in water for 5 hours. Clean and drain the water completely.
  2. In a blender, grind the drained rice with coconut milk to a smooth paste.
  3. To the rice batter, add garam masala, ground pepper and salt. Combine it well and keep aside.
  4. Heat coconut oil in a pan over a medium heat. Add onion into it and saute till translucent.
  5. Then add ginger garlic paste and curry leaves to it and cook till onion turns golden colour.
  6. Add the ground beef into it and combine well with out any lumps. Cover and cook it for 5 minutes.
  7. After the beef is cooked, add chilly powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, fennel powder, garam masala and salt into it and combine well. Stir fry for a few minutes.
  8. Cook till the beef mixture gets dry and add ground pepper to it. Finally add coriander leaves and remove the pan from the heat. Let it cool down. Beef filling is ready.
  9. Switch on the gas stove and place a steamer on the stove.
  10. Take a stainless steel plate, grease the bottam and the sides of the plate with 1 tbsp of ghee.
  11. Pour 3 large spoonful of rice batter in the steel plate. Cover the plate with aluminium foil.
  12. Place the plate in the steamer and cover the steamer with its lid and steam cook for 4 minutes.
  13. After 4 minutes, open the lid and remove the plate from the steamer.
  14. Spread half of the prepared beef filling over the rice layer and evenly pour rest or the rice batter over it. Again spread remaining half of beef filling on it and drizzle 1 tbsp of ghee over it.
  15. Cover the plate with an aluminium foil and steam cook for 15 minutes. Switch off the flame and remove the plate from the steamer. Let it cool down.
  16. Cover the plate with another plate and flip it over, the beef kinnapathiri will fall on to the plate. Cut it into pieces.
  17. Kinnapathiri is ready . Serve it hot.
