  1. Red Gram Lentils/Masore dal     2    cup
  2. Moong Dal(Cherupayar Parippu)     ¾    cup
  3. Dried Red Chilli     3    nos.
  4. Green Chillies     2    nos.
  5. Cumin Seeds     1    tsp
  6. Ginger grated    2    tsp
  7. Fennel Seeds(Perumjeerakam)     1    tsp
  8. Asafoetida Powder    1    pinch
  9. Pudina Leaves -chopped    1    cups
  10. Salt to taste     ½    tsp
  11. Oil for frying    1    cups


  1. Soak the split dal together for 2 hours. Add a handful of split dal just before grinding into the soaked lentils.
  2. Grind them coarsely along with all the other ingredients except mint leaves. Add salt only during the last grinding cycle.
  3. Add little water while grinding enough to grind the mixture coarsely. Add the fresh mint leaves to the grounded dal mixture.
  4. Heat the oil under medium flame. When its heated,fry the vadas till they become golden brown.
  5. Mint vadas is ready to serve. Serve hot.
