  1. Arrow root powder     1    cup
  2. Banana Cut in to small pieces    2    nos.
  3. Cashew Nuts     10    g
  4. Raisins (Unakka Munthiri)     10    g
  5. Coconut pieces     ½    cup
  6. Jaggery(Sarkkara)     6    pieces
  7. Cardamom(Elakka) Powder     ¼    tsp
  8. Ghee     2    tbsp
  9. Water     2    cups


  1. Heat ghee or oil in a pan. Fry cashew nuts, raisins and coconut till they turn slightly golden brown.
  2. Mix the arrowroot powder with enough water and add it to the pan.
  3. When the mixture starts boiling, add melted jaggery pieces.
  4. Add banana pieces and cardamom powder.
  5. Continue boiling till it starts to get a viscous consistency.
  6. You have to be extremely careful at this time if you want to get the perfect consistency.
  7. If you want jelly like pieces that could be cut, continue the boiling for a few more minutes, otherwise stop at the viscous consistency. It will harden further when it cools.
  8. Tasty arrow root , koova payasam is ready. Serve it
