  1. Kanava     ½    Kg
  2. Mustard Seeds     ¼    tsp
  3. Onion Slices    3    no.
  4. Crushed Garlic     1    tbsp
  5. Crushed Ginger     2    tbsp
  6. Turmeric Powder     ¼    tsp
  7. Curry Leaves     1    stalks
  8. Crushed Black peppercorns     2    tbsp
  9. Coconut Oil     2    tbsp
  10. Salt to taste     ½    tsp


  1. Clean and cut the kanava into strips or rings. Wash out well and drain out completely, set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, allow it to splutter. Add sliced onions and saute well , till the onions are soft and translucent.
  3. Add crushed ginger add garlic, saute until raw smell goes on. Add kanava and cook for 5 minutes in low flame.
  4. Add turmeric powder and salt, combine well and cook for 5 minutes in medium flame . Do not add water , it will leaves out water to cook.Then add curry leaves and black pepper powder stir well for 5 minutes, until water content completely evaporates.
  5. Adjust salt and add drizzle little coconut oil on top mix well.
  6. Serve it hot.
