  1. Bittergourd/Kakarakaya     2    no.
  2. Grated Coconut     1    cups
  3. Green Chillies     3    nos.
  4. Onion finely chopped    1    cups
  5. Curry Leaves     1    stalks
  6. Coconut Oil     2    tbsp
  7. Mustard Seeds     ¼    tsp
  8. Dried Red Chilli     2    nos.
  9. Salt to taste     ½    tsp


  1. Combine chopped bitter gourd with all the ingredients grated coconut, onion, green chillies and curry leaves.
  2. Heat a cheena chatty at medium heat . Splutter mustard seeds and fry dry red chillies. Add bitter gourd mixture and enough salt.
  3. Sprinkle little water cover and cook at low heat stirring occasionally until the bitter gourd is done and the thoran is dry, about 12-15 minutes.
  4. Serve with rice and other side dishes.
