Potato Thoran Style -1

  1. Potato     3    nos.
  2. Garlic     3    nos.
  3. Green Chillies     3    nos.
  4. Grated Coconut     1    cups
  5. Curry Leaves     1    stalks
  6. Turmeric Powder     ¼    tsp
  7. Oil     2    tbsp
  8. Mustard Seeds     ½    tsp
  9. Dry Red Chillies     3    nos.
  10. Salt to taste     ½    tsp


  1. Cut the potatoes into thin strips . Put them in a vessel filled with water, to prevent discoloration.
  2. Crush the garlic and green chillies in a mortar and pestle. Combine grated coconut with turmeric powder, curry leaves and the crushed garlic green chilly mixture .Mix well with your fingers.
  3. Heat oil in a pan at medium heat and splutter mustard seeds. Fry dried red chillies and curry leaves.
  4. Next add the drained potatoes, coconut mixture and enough salt mix well.
  5. Sprinkle 2-3 tbsp water and cook coverd for about 10 minutes at medium low heat stirring in between, until the potatoes are done .
  6. Open and stir for 1- 2 minutes until completely dry. Serve the yummy potato thoran with rice and any side dishes.
