  1. Boneless Chicken Cut in to small pieces    1    Kg
  2. Turmeric Powder     ½    tsp
  3. Salt to taste     ½    tsp
  4. Crushed Ginger     1    tsp
  5. Crushed Garlic     1    tsp
  6. Coconut Oil     2    tsp
  7. Pepper Powder     ½    tsp
  8. Coconut Oil     3    tbsp
  9. Mustard Seeds     ½    tsp
  10. Curry Leaves     2    stalks
  11. Crushed Chilli flakes     1    tsp
  12. Coconut Strips     ¼    cup
  13. Onion -chopped    2    cup
  14. Crushed Ginger     1    tsp
  15. Crushed Garlic     1    tsp
  16. Kahsmiri chilli  Powder    1    tsp
  17. Coriander Powder     1    tsp
  18. Turmeric Powder     ¼    tsp
  19. Garam Masala Powder    1    tsp
  20. Thick Coconut Milk     1    cup


  1. Marinate chicken pieces with ingredients 2-6 for at least 30 minutes. Transfer the chicken pieces to a heavy bottomed pan and cook covered until done. Stirring occasionally. Set aside
  2. Heat coconut oil in a heavy bottomed pan. Splutter mustard mustard seeds and fry crushed red chillies, coconut flakes and curry leaves .
  3. Next add chopped onion, crushed ginger garlic and little salt. Cook until onion starts to change color. Bring down the heat to low.
  4. Add turmeric powder, chilly powder, coriander powder and garam masala powder. Cook for a few seconds at low heat.
  5. Add cooked chicken pieces and medium heat until the chicken gets coated with the masala, the dish changes to a brown color and oil starts separating . Switch off.
  6. Chicken Ularthiyathu is ready. Serve it hot.
