  1. Dry Tapioca(Kappa)     3    cups
  2. Small Onion / Shallot     7    nos.
  3. Grated Coconut     2    cup
  4. Salt to taste     ½    tsp
  5. Dry Red Chillies     3    nos.
  6. Curry Leaves     1    stalks
  7. Coconut Oil     2    tsp


  1. Wash the unakka kappa pieces well and soak them overnight in enough water. If you are using dry tapioca that has been cut lengthwise, break it down to cubes with your hands
  2. Crush the pearl onion and dried red chillies in a mortar and pestle. Cook the tapioca in a adding enough water. cook just until done.
  3. Add salt and mix well. Top it with grated coconut, crushed dried red chilles and pearl onions.
  4. Cover and cook for a few minutes at low heat. Mix well. Add 1-2 tsp of coconut oil and mix well.
  5. Serve it hot.
