Elephant Yam Fry

  1. Elephant Yam     ½    Kg
  2. Turmeric Powder     ½    tsp
  3. Salt to taste     ½    tsp
  4. Tamarind Juice     1    tbsp
  5. For masala
    1. Chilli Powder      2    tsp
    2. Turmeric Powder      ¼    tsp
    3. Pepper Powder      ½    tsp
    4. Coriander Powder      ½    tsp
    5. Garam Masala  Powder    1    tsp
    6. Rice Flour      1    tbsp
    7. Gram Flour( Kadala Maavu)      2    tbsp
    8. Water      1    cup
  6. Oil for frying    4    tbsp
  7. Curry Leaves     1    stalks


  1. Take a sauce pan and add in the yam pieces. Cover with water. Add in salt, turmeric powder and tamarind pulp.
  2. Bring this to a boil and cook for 15 minutes till the yam is cooked . Drain it and set aside.
  3. Take all the ingredients for the masala in a bowl. Add water and make into a thick paste. Take the yam pieces and coat in the masala on both sides.
  4. Heat oil in a frying pan, drop the yam pieces in oil and fry till golden on both sides. Drain them in a plate.
  5. Now in the remaining oil, throw the curry leaves and fry till crispy. Remove them and toss with the yam.
  6. Serve with any curry and rice.
