  1. Prawns     250    g
  2. Basmati Rice     2    cup
  3. Cardamom Seeds (Elakka)     4    nos.
  4. Cloves (Kariampo)     2    nos.
  5. Cinnamon Pieces (Patta)     1    piece
  6. Bay leaves     1    nos.
  7. Coriander Powder     1    tsp
  8. Chilli Powder     1    tsp
  9. Turmeric Powder     ½    tsp
  10. Green Chillies -sliced    3    nos.
  11. Curry Leaves     1    stalks
  12. Ghee     5    tbsp
  13. Garlic -chopped    1    tbsp
  14. Onion sliced    1    nos.
  15. Ginger -chopped    1    tbsp
  16. Salt to taste     ½    tsp
  17. Oil     ½    tsp


  1. Wash and soak the rice in water for 15 minutes. Darin it and keep it aside.
  2. Heat 2 tbsp ghee in a thick bottomed pan, add cardamom, cinnamon, cloves and bay leaves and saute.
  3. Add drained rice to this and saute for 2-3 minutes in low medium flame.To this add 2 cups of boiling water and salt and cook till rice is done. Keep it aside.
  4. In a bowl mix coriander powder, chilli powder and turmeric powder adding little water and keep it aside.
  5. Heat oil in pan, and add ginger, garlic, green chillies and curry leaves and saute well.Add masala paste to this and mix well.
  6. When oil starts to separate, add cleaned prawns and salt and saute for 5 minutes om medium flame and remove from flame.
  7. Heat 2-3 tbsp ghee in a large thick bottamed pan and add sliced onions and saute well till golden brown.
  8. Add prepared prawns masala to this and saute well till all the water dries up. Then add cooked ghee rice and mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes on low flame.
  9. Chemmeen Neychoru is ready. Serve hot with raita.
