Semiya Chemmeen Pulao

  1. Vermicelli     2    cups
  2. Prawns     250    g
  3. Onion -chopped    1    cup
  4. Ginger -chopped    1    tsp
  5. Garlic     1    tsp
  6. Green Chillies sliced    3    nos.
  7. Curry Leaves     1    stalks
  8. Chilli Powder     ½    tsp
  9. Turmeric Powder     ¼    tsp
  10. Garam Masala Powder    ½    tsp
  11. Tomato -chopped    1    nos.
  12. Lemon Juice     1    tsp
  13. Coriander Leaves -chopped    2    stalks
  14. Ghee     1    tsp
  15. Hot water     3    cups
  16. Cardamom Seeds (Elakka)     2    nos.
  17. Cinnamon Pieces (Patta)     1    pieces
  18. Cloves (Kariampo)     3    nos.
  19. Salt to taste     ½    tsp
  20. Coconut Oil     2    tbsp


  1. Heat oil in pan at medium heat. Add whole spices and stir until fragrant. Add onion, little salt and sauté until transparent.
  2. Add ginger, garlic, green chilles and curry leaves. Sauté until onion turns light golden.
  3. Add turmeric podwer, chilly powder and garm masala powder. Sauté for 30 seconds and add chopped tomatoes. Cook until tomatoes turn soft.
  4. Add cleaned shrimp, salt and mix well. Next add roasted vermicelli and mix well. Add hot water and bring to a boil.
  5. Add a tsp of ghee, 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves and a tsp of lemon juice. Mix gently. Cover and cook for 5 minutes until vermicelli is completely done.
  6. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Keep covered for a few minutes. Open and fluff gently. Serve it hot.
