Beef and Pidi

Ingredients: 

  1. Beef     1    Kg
  2. Grated Coconut     1    cup
  3. Cloves (Kariampo)     3    nos.
  4. Cardamom Seeds (Elakka)     2    nos.
  5. Cinnamon Pieces (Patta)     1    nos.
  6. Peppercorns     1    tsp
  7. Fennel Seeds(Perumjeerakam)     1    tsp
  8. Chilli Powder     1    tsp
  9. Turmeric Powder     ¼    tsp
  10. Coriander Powder     2    tbsp
  11. Green Chillies     5    nos.
  12. Ginger -chopped    1    pieces
  13. Curry Leaves     1    stalks
  14. Salt to taste     ½    tsp
  15. Coconut Oil     2    tbsp
    1. Rice Flour      1    cup
    2. Coconut Milk      2    cups
    3. Salt to taste      ½    tsp
    1. Water as required      ½    cups

Description:
 

  1. Clean the beef thoroughly. Take a clay pot, and add coconut, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, fennel seeds, whole black pepper and coconut oil. Fry well.
  2. When coconut becomes brown in colour, add red chilli powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder. Saute well and turn off the stove.
  3. When it cools down, mix in a grinder. Boil the beef along with ginger, green chilli, curry leaves and salt in a cooker by adding the right amount of water.
  4. When the beef is cooked, add the ground masala and let it boil for some time. Turn off the stove when if becomes a medium thick gravy.
  5. Take ¾ cup of rice powder and mash it like hoe you do it to make idiyappam ( rice string hoppers ), with a little water . Make small balls and keep aside.
  6. Keep aside 5 cups of coconut milk Add the st of the rice powder , coconut milk, and salt in a bowl and mix it well. Keep it on the stove and bring it to boil keep stirring.
  7. Now , add the balls to it . When it becomes slightly thick, turn off the stove and serve it with beef.
