  1. Finely Chopped Tapioca(Kappa)     2    cups
  2. Mustard Seeds     ½    tsp
  3. Urad Dal(Uzhunnuparippu)     1    tsp
  4. Dried Red Chilli     3    nos.
  5. Curry Leaves     1    stalks
  6. Onion -chopped    ½    cups
  7. Green Chillies -sliced    2    tsp
  8. Fried Papad     2    nos.
  9. Salt to taste     ½    tsp
  10. Oil     2    tbsp


  1. Light the stove and place a pan of water Let the water in the pan come to a boil.
  2. Add the scraped tapioca to the boiling water. Let it cook until the water becomes frothy and boils over.
  3. Pour the mixture through a sieve and let the cooked tapioca dry itself of the water.
  4. Take another pan, pour oil. Add the black gram and then the dried red chillies.
  5. Drop the curry leaves into the pan. Now add the onion slices and saute well.
  6. Add the tapioca slices and mix well. Add enough salt, add the coconut mix well and keep aside.
  7. Now, deep fry the pappadams. Lay the thoran in a bowl, crush the pappadams over it, give it a mix and its ready.
