  1. Rice Powder     2    cups
  2. Jaggery(Sarkkara)     ½    cup
  3. Water     ¾    cup
  4. Sesame(Ellu)     1    tsp
  5. Dry Coconut(Kotta Tenga) -Small thin pieces    ½    cup
  6. Maida     2    tbsp
  7. Banana(palayamkodan) mashed    2    no.
  8. Cardamom(Elakka) Powder Powder    1    tsp
  9. Ghee     2    tbsp
  10. Oil for frying    1    cup


  1. Melt jaggery in 1/2 cup of water. Strain and keep it aside.
  2. In a big bowl,combine rice powder, jaggery ,maida and mashed bananas.
  3. Add dry coconut,ghee,sesame seeds and cardamom powder mix it well. In to a thick batter and keep it aside for 5 hours.
  4. Heat oil in a wok,pour the mixture in small quantities into the wok and deep fry until they are dark brown.
  5. Flip the neyyappams over and cook the other side until golden brown.
  6. Neyyappam is ready.
