  1. Potato     5    nos.
  2. Onion -chopped coarsely    1    no.
  3. Green Chillies -chopped fine    4    nos.
  4. Ginger -chopped    1    piece
  5. Mustard Seeds     1    tsp
  6. Fennel Seeds(Perumjeerakam)     ¼    tsp
  7. Urad Dal(Uzhunnuparippu)     ½    tsp
  8. Turmeric Powder     ¼    tsp
  9. Curry Leaves     2    stalk
  10. Oil     1    tbsp
  11. Water     3    cups


  1. Cook the potatoes adding enough water and mash them.
  2. Heat oil in a pan,add the mustards and allow to splutter.
  3. Add fennel seeds and urad dal.Fry for 2 minutes.
  4. Add the onions, chillies,ginger and curry leaves.Saute them till the onions turn light brown colour.
  5. Now add the turmeric powder and salt.Stir it well.Add water and let it boil for about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Mix the mashed potatoes and simmer for about 10-15 minutes.
  7. Curry is ready and serve it with poori.
