  1. Chicken -Cut into small pieces    500    g
  2. Basmati Rice     2    cups
  3. Curd     1    cup
  4. Onion     2    nos.
  5. Ginger Garlic Paste     1    tbsp
  6. Green Chillies -chopped    4    nos.
  7. Cumin Seeds Powder    1    tsp
  8. Turmeric Powder     1    tsp
  9. Chilli Powder     2    tsp
  10. Pepper Powder     1    tsp
  11. Cinnamon Pieces (Patta)     2    pieces
  12. Cloves (Kariampo)     3    nos.
  13. Cardamom Seeds (Elakka)     2    nos.
  14. Oil     3    tbsp
  15. Ghee     2    tbsp
  16. Water     4    cups
  17. Mint Leaves(Pudina) -chopped    2    tbsp
  18. Coriander Leaves -chopped    2    stalks
  19. Roasted Cashew Nuts to garnish    6    g


  1. Wash and soak the rice for 30 minutes.
  2. Heat the ghee in a pan and add green chillies, ginger-garlic paste and half the cinnamon, cloves and cardamom together.Grind the mixture into a fine paste.
  3. Mix the prepared paste,cumminseed powder,chilli powder,pepper powder and yogurt.And make a fine paste and marinate the chicken pieces for 30 minutes.
  4. Heat the remaining oil in a pan and add the remaining onions,cinnamon,cloves and cardamom.Fry until they are golden brown.Add the rice and fry until it is slightly.
  5. Add water,turmeric and salt.Cook until the rice is half done.Now add the chicken along with the gravy.
  6. Add coriander and mint leaves,cover and cook the rice for 20 minutes.
  7. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and cashews.
  8. Serve it hot.
