  1. Channa Dal(Pottu Kadala)     150    g
  2. Urad Dal(Uzhunnuparippu)     225    g
  3. Toor Dal     150    g
  4. Dry Red Chillies     3    nos.
  5. Asafoetida     1    pinch
  6. Refined oil     700    ml


  1. Soak all the 3 grams in enough water and cover it for an hour.
  2. Drain excess water and grind with dry red chillies,salt and asafoetida to form a batter.
  3. Heat the oil in a pan.Roll the vadai mixture into balls and flatten on the palm into thick small rounds.(Do not make a hole in the centre of the vadai)
  4. Dip the rounds into the hot oil and fry till its golden brown.
  5. Remove the rounds using a slotted spoon and drain the extra oil using absorbant tissues
  6. Repeat the process until all the rounds are fried.
  7. Amavadai is ready to serve.
