  1. Ginger     40    g
  2. Urad Dal(Uzhunnuparippu)     1    tsp
  3. Channa Dal(Pottu Kadala)     1    tsp
  4. Asafoetida     1    pinch
  5. Sesame Oil     2    tsp
  6. Red Chillies     2    nos.
  7. Tamarind     40    g
  8. Jaggery(Sarkkara)     40    g
  9. Turmeric Powder     ½    tsp
  10. Mustard Seeds     ¼    tsp


  1. Clean and chop the ginger finely.Cut red chilly into small pieces.
  2. Soak tamarind in water for 15 minutes and extract thick juice.
  3. Heat oil in a pan.Splutter the mustard seeds and add the dals and asafoetida.Stir for a while.
  4. Add chopped ginger and chilly pieces.Stir well in low flame until chutney is fried.
  5. Add tamarind juice,salt and turmeric powder.Boil it for one minute.
  6. Add jaggery and boil the solution again until it becomes thick
  7. Ginger chutney is ready to serve.
