Ingredients: 

  1. Red Gram (Thuvaram Parippu)     ½    cup
  2. Lady's Finger     100    g
  3. Tamarind Pulp    2    tsp
  4. Asafoetida     ¼    tsp
  5. Sambar Powder (available in market)     2    tsp
  6. Mustard Seeds     ¼    tsp
  7. Urad Dal(Uzhunnuparippu)     1    tsp
  8. Fenugreek Seeds(Uluva)     ¼    tsp
  9. Curry Leaves     2    stalks
  10. Coriander Leaves     1    stalk
  11. Oil     1    tbsp

Description:
 

  1. Cook the red gram in a pressure cooker with enough water. Keep it aside.
  2. Trim ends and haif the okra.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and splutter the mustard seeds. Add fenugreek seeds and black gram and stir until its brown.
  4. Add the okra and stir for a minute.
  5. Add sambar powder, asafoetida and a cup of water. Cover and cook over a medium flame for 10 minutes.
  6. Mix the tamarind pulp, salt and some curry leaves and stir over a medium flame for 2 minutes.
  7. Add the cooked red gram. Remove from heat when sambar gets slightly thick.
  8. Garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves and curry leaves.
  9. 'Vendaikkai Sambar' is ready to serve.
